Illustration Design Brief

I need an illustration that helps potential participants and donors clearly understand the purpose and activity involved in my charity event. The charity event will be a 65mile run/walk/hike from Santa Monica Beach in CA to the top of Mt Baldy over 65 miles away. It will essentially be a hike from sea level to 10K above sea level.

I'd like an illustration to show in cartoon like format the entire route, highlighting major milestones along the way. Specific milestones would be as follows. No need to label each milestone but rather show images that depict the milestones below.

a) The Start at Santa Monica Beach
b) Downtown Los Angeles
c) Hollywood
d) Pasedena (Rose Bowl)
e) San Gabriel Mtns leading to Mt Baldy itself as the finish line.

The illustration should highlight the name of the event, the name of the Wounded Warrier Project and the dates for the event. Finally, the illustration should clearly show an association to the armed services and wounded warriers in visual form.

Please see my VERY rough/poor drawing for some inspiration. Also, feel free to search for pictures of the above locations / iconic images for inspiration. I also included a New Yorker Cover for inspiration too. Colors should be consistent with southern california's dry climate in mountains but palm trees and other tropical settings in urban areas and by the beach.
