Packaging Design Brief

We need a package design for a gift box (specifications uploaded) that is for our company, Worldhotels. We are an independent sales and marketing group that represents independent hotels around the world, and these gift boxes will be used by our business development team to put together gifts and collateral inside of them, and then mail them to prospective clients.

The design for the outside of the gift box should be creative and should illustrate the theme of power, energy, light, and sound. Charging and powering up are also related themes. This is because the gifts sent will mainly be items that either charge things, light up, or are speakers (provide sound), and this is linked with our overall pitch to hotels where we will be using slogans in our collateral, such as:

"Power up your hotel."

or

"Finally a charge you want to see."

or

"Worldhotels. We're playing your song."

or

"Ready to turn the volume up?"

The design for the BACK / FRONT / LEFT SIDE / RIGHT SIDE / BOTTOM of the box must be in ONE color ONLY, as we can only print on one color, and we will 99% be printing those back/front/sides/bottom in BLACK, so please bear this in mind in your design for the BACK / FRONT / LEFT SIDE / RIGHT SIDE / BOTTOM (which are clearly denoted in the design specifications uploaded). One color. Black.

The design for the TOP will actually be able to be more than one color, but since all of the back/front/sides/bottom will be in BLACK, it is likely that the TOP should gel thematically and color-wise with this, although maybe using one or two emphasis colors on TOP in the design could add some impact.

We will require the TOP design in all BLACK as well, just in case the final look and feel does not work well with color, so please make sure your final design includes a 'BLACK' option for the top.

In addition to this, our logo should be used prominently on the TOP of the box, or in a creatively noticeable way. Our logo cannot be broken apart, skewed, stretched or free-transformed out of proportion in any way, BUT - we will allow clever usage of it overlaying other designs or in badging or insignia type objects. A low resolution scan of an example of such an allowable logo/mashup usage is uploaded (only for reference).

Our logo lock in 1c and 4c is also uploaded in .EPS format.

Our brand identity/application (BIM/BAM) manual is also uploaded, which lists our allowable colors, typefaces, and various other elements. HOWEVER, since this is a special project, and since packaging is altogether a unique medium, we encourage designers to take some creative liberties and departures from our BIM/BAM to see what might be some clever ideas.

We particularly like the retro-fusion look (modern badges/insignias or iconized type images with rustic flare but with modern lines and flares within the dna of the design) found in such games as Fallout, BioShock and other future-retro themed games/movies/media, so designs with well implemented styles in this fashion will also rank highly.

The final design should communicate power and charging up a hotel's revenue or bottom line. Creative ideas illustrating energy turning into money or power translating to success might be particularly clever and interesting to us.

All final raw files must be turned over to us for printing purposes. The final designs submitted should consist of the BLACK designs for the BACK / FRONT / LEFT SIDE / RIGHT SIDE / BOTTOM, the COLOR design for the TOP, and the 'BLACK' option for the TOP.
