Really interesting project. i am confusing a bit, do you want to use one same pattern for women and men or two different pattern?

Hi Mahsa Namvar,
Thanks for the good comment. At the moment we are just looking for one set of 4 inter-locking patterns that can be used on any shoe male or female. If you happen to have a set that works great for just male shoes and a separate pattern set that works great for just female shoes please do upload them both and I will show my boss. If he likes either or both of them he will definitely contact you. This project is not a zero sum type, we are aware that there is a big chance we will like more than one designer's uniquie submission. Thus apart from the winning submission there will also be others that will be contacted as runner-ups so their designs can be used in future products.

Thanks again for the question. We look forward to seeing your unique sets of design patterns.

Hi all, thanks for the great submissions so far, please keep them coming.

Extra feedback to all who have already submitted and those whose designs we are still looking forward to seeing soon. Please note the best combination of 4 interlocking patterns is one that look totally different when different combinations of the four patterns or individual patterns are displayed separately.

The goal is to make it so that a shoe owner will look like he/she is wearing a totally different pair of shoes when different individual patterns are shown one day, and also when different combination of patterns are shown on different days.

Please refer to the GIF image attached to this contest to see the reference effect :)

Using that GIF as an example then
1) On Monday the shoe wearer can display double diagonal lines pattern only on the shoe
2) On Tuesday the shoe wearer can display just circles pattern
3) On Wednesday the shoe wearer can display horizontal dash lines pattern
4) On Thursday the shoe wearer can display combination of double diagonal line and single diagonal lines patterns
5) On Friday the shoe wearer can display all 5 patterns
6) On Saturday the shoe wearer can display no patterns and leave the shoe just all black
7) On Sunday the shoe wearer can display no patterns and leave the shoe just all white.
8) The following Monday the shoe wearer can display double diagonal lines with circles patterns
9) The following Tuesday the shoe wearer can display single diagonal lines with horizontal dash patterns
etc

As you can see the look of the shoe would be noticeably different each day depending on the combinations chosen by the wearer.

And please feel free to replicate/modify/improve on these patterns just mentioned above too with various line thicknesses/styles or extra details etc.

For example instead of vertical dash lines inside the circles in the GIF reference you could put a "fleur de lis" , or an original design of your own. Because a fleur de lis on its own will look good and different when worn one day. And when the fleur de lis is not shown but only the double diagonal lines with single diagonal lines are shown the next day they will also look good but more importantly they will look totally different :)

I hope this helps as you refine your amazing designs. I am confident we are going to be surprised by what most of you will create.

Thanks

A. Sci

Thanks to the designer who just asked me these couple of questions:

1) Do all the pieces have to have the same patterns ?

ANSWER: No they do not :) You can make the 4 different patterns on each piece different if you want. Just remember that the semi-circular looking shape is the front of the shoe above the toes and the two pieces adjacent to it are for the left and right side of the foot. The smaller two pieces farthest from the semi-circular looking shape are for the back of the shoe's left and right side of the foot. This way you can sync the patterns nicely for the left and right side of the foot. Or sync the back of the shoe's left and right side of the foot differently. But do all kinds of nice and different things with the semi-circular front part.

2) Do the patterns have to be all small and repeating  ?

ANSWER: No they do not :) Big block pieces that cover each piece or most of each piece nicely will also do. Or if then these big blocks have smaller patterns inside them that will also be even better! This is because sometimes big block areas of say white on a black shoe also can look great and their impact can be much more visible from a distance.
So yes please do feel free to play around with big block patterns that have smaller patterns inside them as well.

Thanks again for the great questions, you know who you are :)
And to all the other great designers please do feel free to ask as well.

Sincerely appreciated.

A. Sci
