Poster Design Brief
LEADER OF THE PACK, a musical theatre production, celebrates the life of Ellie Greenwich, one of America's most prolific Rock N' Roll songwriters. Amongst her many hits include "And Then He Kissed Me", "Be My Baby", "Chapel Of Love","Da Doo Ron Ron", "Do Wah Ditty, "Hanky Panky", "I Can Hear Music", "Leader of the Pack" "Look Of Love", "River Deep, Mountain High" and "We're Gonna Make It After All." Our production will star Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame inductee, DARLENE LOVE.
Your mission: Think early 1960s American Rock N' Roll and create a poster that reflects this genre and creates a brand for the show. Think about what the 60s rock n' roll scene looked like --- there were beehive hair-dos, leather jackets, motorcycles, 45 RPMs and transistor radios, etc. For inspiration visit YouTube and watch some of the original artists performing their songs. Visit Wikipedia's LEADER OF THE PACK (musical) for complete song list and more information.
Poster print size will be 14 inches by 22 inches. Design will be used as key art for
flyers and ad slicks, so a clean image that is not too busy is preferred.
Target Market(s)
The Baby Boomer generation is the largest target market --- The show features Rock And Roll classics from the early to mid 1960s, so it will appeal to people who were
teenagers and young adults in the early to mid 1960s.

Other font styles liked:
- perhaps something that looks like graffiti or spray paint...but not modern day graffiti...again we want the look to reflect the 1960a

Requirements
Must have
- Producers are entering into a license agreement that legally requires having certain information in specific locations and type sizes on the poster as follow:
AT THE TOP OF THE POSTER, CENTERED
James Murtha, Stephen Peters, William Weir, and Curt Wollan (at 20%)
present (at 10%)
LEADER OF THE PACK (at 100%)
THE ELLIE GREENWICH MUSICAL (at 50%)
starring (at 10%)
DARLENE LOVE (at 50%)
Immediately following the above-mentioned information (But leave some space to
keep it from looking copy heavy) we need the following 4 lines all at 50% of the size of the title:
Music and Lyrics by Ellie Greenwich and friends
Liner notes by Anne Beatts
Additional material by Jack Heifner
Based on an original concept by Melanie Mintz
Nice to have
- We strongly wish to include the following quotations incorporated into the lay-out.
" A happy, high spirited, foot stomping romp!" - WNBC Radio
"Darlene Love's thunderbolt voice is as imbedded in the history of Rock & Roll as
Eric Clapton's guitar or Bob Dylan's lyrics." - The New York Times (please use their type masthead lettering)
We would like you to find an interesting way to list these songs from the show
Here they are in the order they are presented in the show. We do not want them enumerated:
Be My Baby
Wait 'til My Bobby Gets Home
Do Wah Diddy
And Then He Kissed Me
Hanky Panky
Chapel Of Love
Baby I Love You
Leader of the Pack
I Can Hear Music
Da Doo Ron Ron
River Deep, Mountain High
Should not have
- Anything that is not in keeping with the mid to early 1960s.
For example if you want to include a motorcycle in your artwork, then it should not be a present day model. If you want to depict graffiti on a brick wall, it should look like 1960s graffiti and not from the hip hop era.
