Illustration Design Brief
Hi Everyone- I'm new to this site. I'm in the process of opening a bar in south Florida and for your time I offer money aaaaand a free bar tab at my establishment if you ever come by! Possibly even a cheeseburger if you get too intoxicated on the free drinks.
First I want to say I look forward to getting responses from all of you and I promise I will comment on each and every one of your designs and provide you feedback because I APPRECIATE the time and effort you are going to put into this. I've seen a lot of the work done on this site and I'm very impressed, hell of a job- you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves...I can barely draw stick figures.
So here is the concept, the bar's name is The Grind, its going to be located in the financial district of downtown Miami. Were targeting the 22-35 year old happy crowd getting off from their 9-5 jobs and want to unwind. Its a tribute to the every day working man (and woman!), because we all know that after a long day of hard work we just want a damn beer and not have to deal with some steroid freak door man giving you a hard time about having the wrong look and having to pay a cover charge because you don't know the jerk. Work hard party harder! Its a rough around the edges kind of bar- beer, sports, anything goes! Think of it as a beautifully built out dive bar (were doing a awesome brick interior with exposed copper ducts and black high gloss light fixtures, just so you have an idea of what were going for).
HERE'S WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR. Our logo, or "mascot" if you will, is a devil. No, not a Satan warshipping exorcism kind of thing, but a friendly devil playing on the idea that we may behave ourselves at work but when we punch that time clock all bets are off. The contest is a friendly looking devil who is domesticated (along with the words "The Grind"). WE WANT A DEVIL DRESSED IN A SUIT HIDING HIS TRUE NATURE. The image in our heads is this friendly devil having his horns combed over (kind of like hair) and the end of his pointed tail possibly barely sticking out of the bottom of his pants leg. Obviously you can take the idea where you want but this is what I see in my head. We want all the distinct features of a devil (horns, pointed tail, possibly jacked up teeth) but him to be smiling or at least NOT SCARY. Along with him we need the bar name "The Grind", we are all artistically inept but we thought about possibly incorporating his tail possibly into the name, like his tail curls around to be the "i" or it is the top of the "T". Other concepts we had was to make the "E" look like the head of a pitchfork or make the semi-circle part of the "D" at the end look like a half moon representing the devil coming out at night.
So to recap, we want this friendly working devil standing next to the words "The Grind" (make the font look good, spruce it up with some artistic devil theme stuff!), but it is important they are not layered on each other because we need to be able to pull out the words for our outdoor sign and pull out the devil because we will brand him on t-shirts and other items like pint glasses. Therefor we aren't looking for some incredibly deeply detailed and highly colorful design. It should be a cartoon like design, check out the images below for an rough idea. We should also be able to separate his head from his body for business cards or to possibly put on the big outdoor sign.
Thank you all so much for your time and I look forward to getting all your submissions. Like I said, anyone in the area or who comes down on vacation, even if you aren't chosen I would love to have you as my guest for drinks on me! Also let it be known I would love to work with the winner in the future for further designs, like the devil in a miami heat jersey, or in a dj booth, so this isn't a one time thing...we want YOU to be our graphic designer! Thanks again guys, remember, work hard but always party harder!
UPDATE-
AFTER THE FIRST ROUND OF SUBMISSIONS I HAVE A CLEARER VIEW OF WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. I WANT A HUMANISH DEVIL, NOT RED SKINNED. I LIKE A BIG GOOFY SMILE AND LIKE WHEN THE CHARACTER LOOKS ALMOST LIKE HE CAME RIGHT OUT OF FAMILY GUY. A FEW OF THE SUBMISSIONS HAD THE DEVIL HOLDING A BIG BUBBLY GLASS OF BEER AND I REALLY LIKED IT! I JUST WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT TO ELISHA LEO SHES AT THE TOP OF THE LEADERBOARD RIGHT NOW, GREAT WORK!
