Illustration Design Brief

We need full colour graphic art (an illustration) for the 2013 poster for Out Takes 2013: A Reel Queer Film Festival. Out Takes is New Zealand's queer film festival showcasing the best international and New Zealand queer feature films, documentaries and short films. We aim for a very inclusive programme every year that appeals to all members of the queer community - gay men, lesbians, transgender people etc.

Out Takes is one of only a few national queer cultural events in New Zealand and we want our poster art to have lots of visibility in mainstream media and venues but to also really attract our queer community members, some of whom may not be aware of the festival.

The illustration should ideally reflect both a queer and Kiwi sensibility and have a link with film culture. We're ready for a change to using a graphic illustration for the poster, moving away from our recent practice of using still photos from films we are screening (see some previous posters in the attached file).

Must have

• Queer theme and sensibility
  Full colour
  Negative space that can be used for positioning a logo and event details
  Dimensions and resolution suitable for A2 posters (4961 x 7016 pixels)

Should not have

• A logo (our festival designer will develop an Out Takes 2013 logo that complements the illustration).
  Genital nudity, sexual explicitness.
  Imagery that might offend sections of the diverse queer community.
  Stock or copyright images for which Reel Queer Inc cannot secure the publication or re-use rights.
