Web Design Brief

I am an independent IT consultant / contractor with established clients. In many cases I sub-contract through other IT companies when performing work for external clients, in which case I am obliged to adopt these other companies' corporate branding. However I am becoming aware that my personal inclusion / involvement is adding significant value to these 3rd party companies' offerings, making them more attractive to their clients. I would like to capitalise on that value by developing my own "personal brand" - providing a means of distinguishing myself from other companies through whom I sub-contract. I figure a personal website would be a good place to start!

I want a design which evokes concepts of "smart, sensible solutions"; "clean and concise". My "competitors" have a tendency towards jargon, and verbose, often meaningless prose. I would like to position myself as the "go to man" for the solution - pure and simple - once all of the posturing and postulating has been finished. (NB: I've used the tagline "Solutions - Pure and Simple" for this project, but I'm receptive to other suggestions!)

Finally (...do you believe that? :-) ) my particular forte is Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial databases. So if a website design can somehow incorporate the idea of maps, or the globe, that'd be brilliant (but keep this subtle - I'm not a cartographer and don't wish to convey that suggestion.) Something that suggests the connection between information and databases with maps and locations, perhaps?

Examples / concepts I like:
"Solution" - this is what I do! Often to ill-described, uncertain problems.

"Elegant design" - this is what I (like to think I) do :-)

Updates

I've added a PDF file with some unstructured thoughts and ideas around what I'm after. I realise I've left this brief quite open-ended - I don't mean to make it difficult. I'm really after some graphic design creative brilliance, more than website technical brilliance. Hope this helps!

I've uploaded an excerpt from my personal CV in a bid to answer some of the ... well, quite reasonable questions I'm receiving about what the hell it is that I actually do! By way of explanation, I didn't upload this information - or indeed, by entire CV - originally, because I really am seeking something more timeless than a "latest CV." As I've indicated, I'm really trying to create a web presence to confirm my right to "be here". I fully expect that any serious customers who visit my site will follow through with a "contact me" action, at which time I will be able to respond with a discussion and/or CV tailored to a particular project. That's what I do. As for the not-so-serious visitors to my site, I'd like them to leave with an affirming nod and the mental note that, they've stumbled upon somebody credible. And if they bookmark the site, all the better! :-) Hope this helps!

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: I'd really like a couple of extra days to run these ideas past some friends and colleagues. This is great stuff - but like so many deadlines, this one snuck up a bit quicker than I was expecting!

Target Market(s)

Prospective clients already aware of my existence, seeking confirmation / reassurance of my bona-fides and relevance. Typically government or mainstream business IT procurement staff.

Requirements
Must have
  • Simple, clean, timeless (?) design. I want a stable, solid web "presence" but don't expect to have to "work" the site at all. It's a brochure, really. But that doesn't mean it can't be a good one!
Nice to have
  • Incorporate new logo (currently subject of a separate DesignCrowd project - no: 756310)
Single page design - (I could be persuaded otherwise, but can't see the need for more than one really!)
Should not have
  • Rolling banners, smiling actors / actresses, etc (I have no interest in updating these images!)
Shopping cart, news feeds, blah, blah... This is a static advertising presence only.
