Postcard Design Brief

We need a flyer (front and back, postcard-size) for a new non-profit organization based in Miami, FL called Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI). CCRI provides support and advocacy for victims of online harassment. Our first campaign is the End Revenge Porn Campaign, which seeks to help victims whose intimate/nude/explicit photos have been distributed without their consent. The flyer will be handed out when we attend events and network with other non-profits and potential donors. It should summarize what CCRI's mission is and what we have accomplished, as well as encourage people to get involved and donate to our organization. The color scheme that we have so far is maroon and black, as the logo reflects, but feel free to incorporate other colors that may complement these. We want the card to be eye-catching and informative. You can incorporate one or both of the slogans that we've used in other print materials: "Speak Up, Fight Back" and "Join the Public Fight for Online Privacy". See the attached images and documents for other materials and info can be incorporated into the flyer. Feel free to check out our websites for more ideas: www.EndRevengePorn.org and www.CyberCivilRights.org.

Updates

Hi Everyone! Thank you for the submissions so far, I'm still working on providing some feedback for some of you. I forgot to mention that we have Twitter and Facebook accounts that we'd like to encourage people to visit. The info for them is as follows: CCRI: Twitter: @CCRInitiative Facebook: Facebook.com/CyberCivilRightsInitiative ERP: Twitter: @EndRevengePorn Facebook: Facebook.com/EndRevengePorn If possible, please put these on the postcard somewhere, and feel free to get creative with shortening them (maybe use the FB and Twitter icons instead of writing their name out). Also, I'd like the bit about our 501(c)(3) status to be worded as follows: "CCRI receives 501(c)(3) non-profit fiscal sponsorship from The Hub for Direct Community Action. Donations are tax deductible under IRS non-profit guidelines." Thanks! Holly

I've decided to make my cards oversized cards (8.52" x 5.47"). Take this into consideration when you're creating your designs, please! It should give you a lot more space to work with.

The print on the back should include the following three sections: "About Us", "Mission", and "Impact". Their content is as follows: About Us Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI) is a non-profit organization advocating for technological, social, and legal innovation to fight online abuse. Our first campaign, End Revenge Porn, provides support and advocacy for individuals whose intimate photos/videos have been distributed without consent. Mission • Raise awareness and educate the public about online harassment • Advocate for state and federal legislation to prevent such abuse • Provide victims with emotional and moral support • Discover and vet resources for victims Impact Since it began in August 2012, CCRI has: • Provided support for over 1,500 victims worldwide • Assisted in the drafting of 17 state bills & a federal bill against revenge porn • Helped 8 States pass criminal laws against revenge porn • Enlisted 22 lawyers across the US to provide pro/low bono services to victims

Requirements
Must have
  • -One of our logos (whichever you prefer)--and if you can improve upon it, be my guest!
-The "Speak Up" hand image (it's become even more popular than our logo)
-Our full name (Cyber Civil Rights Initiative)
    -Our websites: www.CyberCivilRights.org & www.EndRevengePorn.org
-Mention that we receive 501(c)(3) non-profit fiscal sponsorship from the Hub for Direct Community Action and donations are tax deductible under IRS non-profit guidelines (could do this in small print at the bottom of one side)
Nice to have
  • Feel free to get creative with the technological/Internet aspect of this. Take into consideration that we see online harassment as a violation of one's cyber civil rights, and our cause as the start of a cyber civil rights movement. The topic we are addressing is very new and cutting edge; and we're not just educating the public about it, we're taking big steps to end it.

With regard to our first campaign, consider that revenge porn is a new form of sexual assault, so its victims are encountering much of the same victim-blaming that rape victims experience. Rape victims are told that they were asking for it by wearing such a short skirt, revenge porn victims are being told that they were asking for it by taking the pictures in the first place. If you can incorporate our argument against this somewhere, it would be great to get that message out. One popular comparison that we use is as follows: "Sharing intimate material with another person implies limited consent similar to other business transactions. When you give your credit card to a waiter to pay for dinner, you aren't giving him permission to buy a yacht." Maybe you could pair this with #EndVictimBlaming or something.
Should not have
  • Anything in poor-taste re: revenge porn. No images that look like they could be nude/pornographic images that have been blurred out or disoriented. Nothing objectifying the human figure.
