Logo Design Brief

We are an international consulting agency that works with small and medium sized businesses, mostly run by expatriates. Our team provides consulting, mentoring, and coaching services along with access to capital for those in need of startup or investment funds. We cover the full spectrum of business needs from startup to product delivery.

We need a logo that embodies the four priorities we have with each client: Profitability, Productivity, Enculturation and Integration.

The logo should:
1. communicate professionalism (a major core value of ours)
2. work well in both print and digital media.
3. be timeless,
4. be suitable for printing in large and small format; think highway billboard to ballpoint pen.

Our company name is Four Dimensions Consulting.

We are looking forward to seeing a variety of creative solutions for our logo and will consider text or graphic based, with or without words. We think we may be leaning towards less text and more of an icon (think Pepsi), but we don't want that to hinder anyone from coming up with an alternative approach.

We like cool colors over warm colors, though we are not opposed to seeing designs with warm tones.

We will be checking often dedicating a lot of time to provide feedback. Please feel free to ask questions.

Updates

Thanks for all your submission.  We hope to be very engaged and provide as much feedback as we can.  With all the submissions we have had we could walk away with any of these and be happy with the $$ we spend.

Some common themes that have emerged:
1.  No swooshes please.
2.  Blues and grays are just the right balance of classic with slightly modern professionalism that we are aiming for.  We would love to see some out of the box abstract/other color ideas though.
3.  If using the 4D we definitely prefer 4D over FD.
4.  Many of you have hit the target right on the head with the balance of classic and modern professionalism.  We would love to see some slightly modern renditions of your ides, but not so modern that we loose the professionalism.    We received a great classic logo that if we walked away right now would choose.  Simple, classic, professional (think attorneys/lawyers office).  We want to push that envelope further to the right though but not too far that we start looking futuristic.

Most of our clients are 30-50 and within their own generation are pushing the envelope of trendy/modern, but compared to a younger generation they are not.  That is what encapsulates our thinking on #4 above.

Thanks for all the great submissions.

Thanks for the progress everyone. We are getting a lot of similar simple professional ideas and variations using the 4 and the D. We were hoping for more Pictorial / Combination Logo or Abstract Logos like Design Crowd gave examples of. It would be great if you could try and embody our four priorities (Profitability, Productivity, Enculturation and Integration) and try and have that come through in the logo. Having the words 4D or Four Dimensions is not necessary on the logo. For example the current Pepsi logo does not include the words Pepsi. It would be great to see some pure abstract work with no words.

One other thought... Feel free to take the wildest craziest leap in creativity. We have the capability in house to come up with the simple professional feel that many of you are going for and that's understandable reading the brief, but I would encourage you not to be conservative. Go bold. We've had two submissions that are moving that direction but I'd like to see it go much further. Also we expect the first submissions to be raw concepts, not finished logos. We are not judging based on quality of the concept so there isn't a need to spend a lot of time on your first concept. Scanned in sketches on paper napkins are acceptable. Crude concepts are fine. If we see something that catches our eye we can run with it and then you can polish it in Ai. I'll upload a sketch I did that I would consider real basic, very logical. We want to push that far out and go for more abstract ideas.

Hey all. Someone has made an exact replica of my sketch already so if you are considering just copying my sketch it would be best to use your creativity and come up with a different design. Thanks.

Hi everyone. Thanks again for all the submissions. No more 3 dimensional cubes for now. We have seen enough and would like to see other creative ideas. Also we have had a lot of submissions that are breaking what I would consider basic design rules. If you are not a professional designer and/or have never studied the basics of design (color theory, negative/positive space, balance, etc...) than please read this article before working on submissions thanks. http://designbuddy.com/key-elements-of-good-logo-design

Thanks for all the submissions everyone. We are no longer accepting any variations of the letters '4D' or Cube artwork. If submitting designs please come up with something abstract. Thanks. PS if you think you can really knock our socks off ignore the above and give it a shot.

Requirements
Must have
  • Timeless; Needs to work across generations.
Needs to scale easily and be readable in large and small format.

Nice to have
  • If we could incorperate the 4D feel using a 3 dimensional cube as an abstract object that would be great, but we would be just as happy with a well done wordmark logo.
Should not have
  • Fonts should not have bubble or rounded edges. No script font. No crazy fonts (Think Comic Sans, etc...)
No dollar signs, or references to money.
    no green
no rainbow of color use please. Multicolor is fine, but keep to a minimum. I don't want to feel like we are at the circus.
