ORIGINS

Ever since the Seventies the development of political ecology in Italy has been very interesting: it has included movements and currents, both local and theme-centered, that expressed the desire for environmental quality and the protection of life.

These currents were united in a political body – Federazione Nazionale dei Verdi, National Green Federation – trying to represent the different movements opposed to economical and political choices seen as ineffectual and damaging to man and to the planet’s health (nuclear energy, industrial pollution of ground, water and air, industrial requirements of chemical fertilizers poured over cultivated soil, impounding of seeds and imposition of GMOs, industrial transformation of products).

This party’s fortunes were not always good. In the end globalization and its consequences on the environment, together with a particular and damaging reform of election laws, caused this important movement – with its sensibility and demands essential to the development of society and modern life – to not be included in recent government coalitions.


THE NECESSITY

Given the situation, and considering the fact that green parties in the rest of Europe have obtained excellent results by being able to reinvent redefine and refocus themselves, it has now become necessary to structure a new phase in environmental political movements. It is necessary to move forward from the traditional green party and its inability to adapt to current political and communication techniques. This can be done, among others, with a brand, a logo – as a communication expert like Gianpaolo Fabris would suggest.


CHARACTERISTICS (WHAT WE NEED)

The closest example, both culturally and politically, is undoubtedly the French movement Europe Ecologie (www.europe.ecologie.fr). It is to them that we need to look to create a movement with its roots deep in local cultures. It could have a fully modular structure or be represented by a national brand with local and regional variants. Including the words "PIEMONTE EUROPA ECOLOGIA" is essential: it seems to be very important in order to being a part of an already established European movement. It needs to be possible to easily include or add the name of the region or the town when needed, for example during local election campaigns.

VERY IMPORTANT

Please, considered that, in Italy, during political election period, the symbol/logo must
be placed in a circle according to the ancient principle of the seal wax. We don't need a round logo, but a logo that works during the election days.
