Logo Design Brief
I am the owner/photographer of "Labrie Photography" based in southern Maine (just south of Portland) specializing in child and family portraits. I am in great need of a catchy logo that utilizes both an icon and unique and/or customized font-text. I would like to be able to use the icon and text independently or in conjunction and both be recognizable as the logo. My current logo can be found on my website, www.labriephoto.com. You can also get a sense of the photographer/photography from its custom site design and gallery. The final design should be simple and fun (not stuffy) but not child-centered, either. Modern but not overly sophisticated.
Updates
I have uploaded a couple of sample logos that I like. I especially love "Shutterbug." I like the simple but "cute" icon and the little alteration on the "g" to pull it all together. It is exactly what I was trying to describe in my requirements.

In case anyone is interested in trying something "new" I have uploaded an Illustrator file of my "signature." It's a little rough around the edges and probably needs to be cleaned up a big (some of the curves have some sharp points that could afford to smoothed out).

Had another possible idea for those looking...I shoot everything digital. Maybe someone can do something with flying pixels or something? Help surround or integrate the text part of the logo into the graphic? Let the brainstorming begin! :-)

Wanted to pass this along...I really like the font and graphic style of the "Life is Good" company (Tshirts, hats, stickers, etc). I would love to see something done in this style. Anyone up for that challenge?

Requirements
Must have
- Needs to be printable in a single color. For example, black toner on white paper. Or white ink on a colored pen, etc. Use of color is ok (encouraged, even) as long as it can also be used as black and white.
Nice to have
- The logo must consist of some kind of icon and some kind of identifiable text. The icon does _not_ have to be of camera equipment. Update: I'm finding that the use of camera equipment is overdone. Avoid using lenses, cameras, and apertures.
Should not have
- The design should not use gradients or shadows. Update: I'm finding that I haven't liked the icons that are made up of the business initials. If done in a way that isn't so obvious then that may be ok. But the icon shouldn't be abstract, either. In other words, if an image is created (a recognizable one) by using the L and P then that may be ok.
