I’m creating the official cover art / poster for a documentary film.
This design will serve as the primary visual for public screenings, digital platforms, marketing materials, and potential streaming thumbnails.
About the story:
The documentary is built around my personal journey of losing both of my parents to AIDS before the age of 16, and how God used that pain to shape purpose, faith, and a calling to help others find hope. The film weaves together testimony, real-life experiences, and faith, showing how brokenness doesn’t have to be the end of the story. It’s about redemption, resilience, and discovering purpose in the middle of pain.
The tone is honest and grounded, not sensationalized. It should feel raw but hopeful, serious but inviting. This is not a hype-driven or overly religious film. It’s meant to feel real, reflective, and redemptive.
About me (the subject):
My name is Yannik McKie (neighborhood Nik is my nickname because of my work in the community). I’m a pastor, mentor, and leader, but at my core I’m authentic, approachable, and rooted. I don’t present as polished or untouchable. I’m confident but humble, serious about purpose, and deeply relational. I care about people, especially those who feel overlooked, stuck, or written off. I am from Atlanta, Ga and love fashion, cars and serving people lost in their pain.
If I’m visually represented, it should feel real and grounded — not posed, flashy, or overly stylized. Strength with softness. Conviction without arrogance. Hope without pretending pain didn’t happen.
Audience:
The film is primarily for adults and young adults navigating loss, adversity, faith questions, or a sense of being stuck or disconnected from purpose. This includes people both inside and outside the church. Many viewers may not consider themselves religious but are open to meaning, healing, and transformation.
Design direction:
I’m looking for cinematic key art that communicates depth, struggle, and transformation at a glance. The design should feel like a true documentary poster — clean, intentional, gritty, emotionally compelling, and story-driven. Not a book cover or church flyer.
The goal of the design is to make someone pause, feel something, and want to know the story behind the image.
I’m open to creative interpretation and would love to work with a designer who can translate story, emotion, and purpose into a powerful visual. Here is a link to a lot of good family photos you may want to consider using. Thank you!
