Logo Design Brief

I had a logo made for a wonderful brotherly project some years ago, and the project has now turned into a book for the cover of which I need an improved logo.
It should be composed and proportioned EXACTLY as the one I attach, with the EXACT same hat, but the main change would be to give it both a modern and an ancient feel. I attach the PSD and EPS formats so you can work on that. The modern feel is already there, from the 3D shape, and the ancient could come from maybe a linen textured kepi and a more ancient looking earth. The feather should also look a little more like a writer's quill but it should still have the blood in it. I also need a star at a distance on top, appearing to shine subtly to symbolize hope in something greater. The colors should remain the same except on the earth to which beige could be added, maybe, for the ancient feel. Besides, White, blue, red and green should be the sole colors. The green on the kepi should be a little darker/deeper and overall the logo should be very beautiful to look at. Truly, like a little work of art, as it will be the only thing on the book cover. There should be a subtle, childlike, whimsical effect to it, maybe evocative of the world of Alice in Wonderland. Any ideas are welcomed. I attach a picture of what the start should approximately look like, not like five point star, but like an actual star, maybe with some subtle twist to it. There should be something beautiful and mysterious about the Logo. Type "ancient planisphere" on google for inspirations on how to make the earth a little more ancient looking.
