Wordpress Design Brief
We run a website that collates profiles/interviews of individuals who have completed a PhD and moved away from a traditional academix career path into something related. This is often related to the field they studied in, such as publishing, government policy, consulting, teaching and many other things. The website https://research-careers.org aims to give students and researchers ideas about what paths they can take their career on.
We would like to refresh our brand with a new website and logo. Our website is run through wordpress and hence we would need appropriate files and designs to accomodate this.
Our new logo should represent the idea of navigating a career path and exploring the unknown. Up until now it has been a compass in tones of purple and blue. We are happy to keep this motif but would need an updated, more representative logo. We are also happy to get some new ideas if the designer has something they think would fit.
The website itself should have fresh and clean look. We would like a banner at the top with clear links to the various parts of the site. The banner should stay consistent throughout the site.
We would like the main page to have a clean and simple look which places the focus on the profiles and their associated photos.
We would like pictographs to represent the different fields which our profiles fit into and would like to discuss with the winning designer what these would look like exactly. As a starting point we would like pictographs representing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts for People and the Economy).

We are really looking for something that is clean and professional but embodies our mission to represent all of the major industries which doctoral graduates can go on to work in. Those being, academia (universities), government, industry (private enterprise and companies), and third sector (Charities and think tanks etc.). Any design should cover all of these and not focus just on a big business or similar. It should also represent that we are not purely science focused, but all disciplines and are a broad church in that sense. We are open to various colour schemes and ideas but would like something that gives a professional but approachable feel, it should have elements of Oxford, but not suggest that we are only open to Oxford University students or graduates.
Some sites that may be useful are:
https://royalsociety.org/news-resources/projects/research-culture/ - talks about the different areas of employment we are trying to represent
https://www.socsci.ox.ac.uk/ an oxford internal website that we like the presentation of.
