Logo Design Brief

We are a private equity firm. Our name is “Black Diary Investments”. We need a brand logo that is slick, but something that sort of lightens the dark themed name. We need it for marketing materials, and perhaps another version that is friendly for promotional clothing.
I initially had a black fairly and an old fountain pen but found it was too intricate. I would like to incorporate some imagery in the logo but also open to just letters if it is done creatively enough. We are also Canadian if you want to incorporate a little maple leaf somewhere
