Hello.
I submitted some logos. It would be great if you could leave me a feedback.

Hi!
Great name for a cat :)

Some additional clarification would be of much help:

You said "we don't want the logo to imply cats only". What do you exactly mean by this? Because when it comes to pet business, logo-marks are either cats or dogs (being the most common pets) and usually when using one does not imply that you do not provide for the other. To be 'politically correct' you would have to use cat+dog, but then again it would be quite a crowded logo. And to be fair, you named your business after your cat, so she deserves her moment of fame...

Basically, what I'm asking is: do you totally reject the idea of a shrimp-cat as logo mark? Help, please. I have some funky ideas, but they kind of involve a cat, so I need to make sure.

Best regards (to Shrimp as well),

Catalin

Hi Catalin,

Thank you for thinking about working on our logo.

As much as i would love for the logo to be cat oriented (with possibly a cat/shrimp creature!), i''m trying to think long term.

Eventually, we would like to add dog products. In that case, a logo with a cat in it might confuse dog owners and possibly alienate them. People are very emotional about their pets.

I was looking at pet business logos and came across 4 kinds. the first, their name indicates pets and they can afford to have a non pet-related logo-mark (e.g. Petstages and Petsmart, because they have the word pet in their name).

The second type, usually has something that indicates cats+dogs and sometimes even birds and bunnies (e.g Petco).

The third type, they specialize in a certain pet (e.g Go-Cat and SmartyKat).

The fourth kind, in my opinion, confuse their customers (e.g Olive pet products, their logo-mark is a dog, but they do offer cat products). I''ve spoke to many cat owners, who said they would not buy from this company because they feel their main focus is dogs, and not cats, and that they may find a better collection somewhere else. I don''t want that to happen with us.

You are right, a cat+dog in a logo is too much. Plus, we are starting only with cat products anyway.

I am not creative at all, so the only thing i can think of, that might work, is a paw print.

I don''t know if this makes a difference, but the original name for the store was (Shrimp & Alfalfa), after our 2 cats. But we found out that a lot of people found (Alfalfa) to be hard to read and pronounce (for many of them, english is their second language). So we decided to drop Alfalfa, although he''ll be heavily featured in the website as Shrimp''s brother.

Hope this help!

Hi, Hend!

Thanks for the feedback, it helps a lot. I think I got it. I will do my best to come up with something both generic and creative. And of course related somehow to the shrimp, 'cause you cannot have a name that is not at all related to the logo mark.

And just because I'm curious, where does Alfalfa come from?

Catalin

Hi Catalin,

In order to make life easier for us, my husband and i decided to to do this. We''ll ad a "coming soon" section in the website for dog products. That would allow us to include a dog figure in the logo, if needed.
Hopefully this will make the process a little easier.
And to answer your question...Alfalfa was the name assigned to him in the animal shelter. We decided to keep it because he responded to his name and felt bad about changing it...and it eventually grew on us. Shrimp & Alfalfa!

Great! I will however try to create the logo in a manner that will not require future redesign (adding a dog figure in a logo might mess up the composition and so on; it's easier said than done :)).

Thanks!

I think my previous comment was not clear, and it might've confused you.
Actually, what i meant is, since in the website it will clear that we'll be offering dog products soon, then having a dog in the current logo will not be an issue. (but that doesn't mean you have to have a dog+cat in the logo...it's just an option to consider...another option is to go with paw prints or anything else that indicates pets).
This way, we don't have to worry about alienating dog owners or confusing them.
Hope this makes sense :)

Hi, and thanks for the invite! But I don't understand your payment breakdown.

1st place = $410
Participation payments x 4 = $50
Total = $400
The total should be $610

Can you please clarify this?

Thanks.
