Logo Design Brief
I am an astrophotographer and I am creating a new website to showcase and sell my work. The type of astrophotography I do is going after galaxies and nebulae that are very far away. I hundreds of short exposures over many nights that all combine to form a bright and colorful images of the universe. This is extremely technical work that take significant time and effort and some cutting edge technology to do. I need a logo design that can be used as a watermark - layered onto the bottom left corner of my images - as a way of signing my work. Astronomical images have typically black or dark backgrounds, so I need a logo that has text and graphics in white on a transparent or dark background. I would also like to use the logo on the header of my website. I am looking for something that has a technical/scientific vibe and that evokes the extreme distances and wonder of these deep sky objects.
Updates
The Submission Period for the Cosgrove's Cosmos Logo Design Contest is now closed. It is now my job to pick the final design I want to go with.
This is my first experience with Designcrowd - and it was an amazing one. I ended up getting 160 designs that were all EXCELLENT - each in their own ways. I ran three polls with an extended group of friends and colleagues and that was a big help in narrowing down my choices and providing what I hope was good feedback about your designs.
I have to tell you - you have made my job very difficult because I have a lot of submissions that I really like - but I can only use one and I will make my decision very soon.
I wanted to personally thank each and every one of you for taking the time create your designs for this project. I could not do what you do - but I truly appreciate your talent.
Thank you,
Patrick

Requirements
Must have
- The text above. Must work well to layer on to astro photos (several samples are attached to the brief). Must have both text and graphic design elements. Must be readable but not too large. Must white or near white on transparent or dark backdrop. Must be serious rather than whimsical.
Nice to have
- Formal or serious theme. Scientific theme. I do deep sky photography - which means spiral galaxies, nebulae, star clusters. It would be nice to have graphics that play this up. Telescopes are are an obvious thing here - so some play on that might be interesting. Finally - just a thought - I kind of like the idea of the text looking like it was sliding through or merging with the center of a galaxy.
Should not have
- No "new age" themes. Should NOT be whimsical or "fun". Nothing that focuses on the solar system targets like the moon, planets, or comets ( I just don't do those). Color ( I would not mind using color on the website but this will not work on the images)
