Logo Design Brief
We need a logo for our 'paddock-to-plate' farm business.
We sell farm regeneratively farmed produce from our farm directly to consumers in and around Melbourne, Australia.
Regenerative farming means we do not use any artificial fertilizers or pesticides, but intead farm with the help of our livestock and nature to improve microbial life and carbon sequestration in the top soil, thereby producing healthier food and ultimately, a healtier planet.
We sell, season dependent, fruit and vegetables plus a range of protein, ranging from eggs to beef, pork and poulty.
Aside from farm produce, we also offer farm stay accomodation in the homestead and in a self contained cottage and tiny house on the property.
The farm is on a historic property with a large homestead dating back to circa 1976. The name of the property is Summerleigh and the original owner ran a mixed farming business with focus on Shorthorn cattle (old British breed). We decided to continue that tradition and also run Shorthorn, as well as other rare breed livestock.
From our Homestead farmstay business, we know that people are interested in the history of Summerleigh and its large traditional australian farm homestead and surrounding park like gardens.
In other words, the history and homestead ifself is a 'unique sellling point' compared to other local 'paddock-to-plate' farmers.
We are family run and family owned.
LOGO brief:
The logo will need to work well for a range of uses, including as a circular single colour stamp on our eggs, where the maximum diameter is 16 mm.
That aside we need the logo for use in Social Media and on a website, plus for print on egg carton, packaging materials and property signage.
As such, there may need to be a "hero logo" plus a "child logo", so a simplified version for the likes of the stamp use.
Target Market(s)
1) Consumers who are conscious about what they eat and where their food comes from, care about the health and biodiversity of the planet, and supports local farmers and local produce.
2) Consumers / Guests wanting to experience a historic manor-like farm homestead near Melbourne, and/or who is attracted to historic buildings. NB! Summerleigh turns 150 years in 2026 and we are planning to celebrate the milestone.

Requirements
Must have
- Logo must give the viewer a sense of history, tradition but with a friendly, family values, enviromentally conscious feel.
We are thinking a logo with an illustration that symbolises a tree and it's root underground, showing that what is in the ground is a important and signifcant as what is above ground.
The old gum tree in photos are unique to the property and probably predates Summerleigh by a few hundred years. It could be part of the logo, by illustration, but not necessarily.
Nice to have
- We are imagining a logo that leans towards an emblem feel and/or a combination logo. Probably circular, but not necessarily.
"Summerleigh c 1976" could also be "Summerleigh Homestead c.1876" if it works for the main hero logo; and then a simplified version for the 16mm logo egg stamp.
Should not have
- We are a family business, so strictly no "corporate feel".
