Logo Design Brief

I have a client who wants to completely redo and modernize their logo. Attached is a very old version of their logo that includes a design element that can stand on its own. I would like to have the new logo include an emblem or stand alone design element that can live on its own apart from the text portion of the logo. Color cominiations for the new logo should include blue and gold.
