T-shirt Design Brief
We are Road Dog Apparel, a lifestyle company with attitude. There are many motorcycle apparel companies out there selling their t-shirt designs, so the first question we need to ask is how do we separate ourselves and create an identity with our own look and style.
Of course one of the largest is Harley Davidson. Sure they have the name and quite a following. Some of their design work is simple graphics, but the majority are multi color designs with a lot of detail. Triumph does a good job with some of their simple vintage graphics, which I like a lot.
I want you to familiarize yourself with England in the 1930’s. The “Rockers” were coming of age and a culture was borne. Then, also in England in the 1950’s “Ace Café” became the hangout spot and the Brits we’re very much into the whole motorcycle scene. Those simple t-shirt designs will be our focus. Very vintage and distressed designs with simplicity and related design elements that speaks to the biker crowd.
I have 12 specific ideas for designs, which I will be doing, but the focus on this project is our Road Dog Club Shirt. The Company name is Road Dog Apparel, but I don’t feel using the word “apparel” in the shirt designs would look right.
The saying for this shirt will be: ROAD DOG
AN ATTITUDE SINCE BIRTH
Break this up possibly with ROAD DOG on top of the design and AN ATTITUDE SINCE BIRTH at the bottom. Possibly put each inside a banner, so they stand out.
Of course we need a cool design element; vintage feel, edgy look, themed to the motorcycle enthusiast . The overall look will be a grey scale design with one (1) element in full color (see the attached example), distressed and very vintage with a look like the shirts I was describing above back in the 1950’s as that motorcycle culture was coming of age.

Requirements
Must have
- I decided that I want to have a look that you have seen in black and white photography. Think of a black and white photo that has one element with a splash of color. Known as hand tinting when it comes to photography. I want to see a grey scale design with one element of the design in full color (see attached example). I want elements in the design tied into the motorcycle culture, but no entire motorcycles in the design. I do want other elements in the design, not just the captions I listed. Think skulls, tribal, elements of a motorcycle, just not an entire motorcycle. These are just a few suggestions, use your imagination and keep it biker themed. I also want a Vintage Type Style from the 1950 era (see attached examples).
Nice to have
- Vintage Feel....edgy elements. Old school look. Definitely using design elements back from the 1950's.
Should not have
- I do not want any motorcycles in the design. I don't want it specific to any certain type of rider. This has to be universal to ALL types of motorcycle enthusiasts.
