Label Design Brief
I am one of the owners of Girdwood Brewing Company. Our brewery is less than a mile away from Alaska’s largest ski resort, Alyeska. We have a beautiful timber framed taproom and beer garden that allows you to soak in panoramic views of the ski resort and surrounding mountains. Skis, old chairlifts, and vibrant art work from locals decorate the taproom. Check out our Facebook and Instagram (girdwood_brewing_co) to get a better idea of what we are about.
We have been using a generic label for all of our canned beers. In October, we will receive a professional canning machine. We are developing a template that will be placed on all the 16 ounce cans; this will include our logo, name of each beer, style, and other information. The entire label will by 5" by 8". The template will be a 1/2 " the top, bottom, and sides, so there will be approximately 4" by 7" of art to brand each beer individually. This 4 by 7 (without text) is the design we are looking for.
While we have a number of beers we are looking to brand, we are going to start with Down the Chute. It is a light, refreshing kölsch. It is a super crushable beer that appeals to a number of people. In the mountains a chute is similar to a couloir- a steep narrow passage that forms in cliff bands. A couple of the signature ski runs at Alyeska are Christmas Chute and New Years Chute. They are basically a ribbon of snow that is super fun to ski for experts, but they can be deadly for those without skills. This is one meaning of “down the chute”. The other refers to a beer that easily goes “down the chute” of your throat due to it being so light and refreshing.
Updates
We have decided to go with a local designer. Thanks.
