Graphic Design Brief

I want to extend these existing graphics (see files) into a full set of simple graphics that all look very similar. These images will be used as design elements to take the reader of a book through its chapter headings. The book is called LEAP.

As the book chapters progress, the young person grows from a young child of about 6 to where they stand in the end as a young adult of perhaps 21. The first image of the series wants to be of a young child, just beginning to take a leap (toward the reader). The last image wants to be of this child having grown into a young adult during their leap, standing and happy, celebrating that they have completed their leap. If there is any way to include an emotional feeling transition into the images, that is welcome. The child as it grows into an adult wants to shift from scared but determined to leap to standing, happy and utterly fulfilled. The scene: you might find this begins as a young child looking for his parents, lost in the woods. The child comes across a narrow ravine, with an old stone decaying bridge. The center of the bridge is gone, but the rest of it is intact enough. if the child makes a leap... and it will be risky... the child might get across. He knows that he can get home if he crosses the chasm. It is beginning to get dark. So he decides to leap. The viewpoint for us is looking at the child as he leaps toward us.

Target Market(s)

General audience. Anyone who cares about our world and wants to learn how they can truly help this world become a better place. This book, LEAP, offers a powerful way we can all help to change the world.

Requirements
Must have
  • GUIDELINES
  • (A) The young person should be unisex. We cannot tell what sex they are.
  • (B) You also should not be able to tell the young person's skin color. I have found that keeping the image one solid color works best, as differences between the colors of the clothing and skin begin to suggest race. But I'm not an expert designer by any means.
  • (C) Keep the basic hints of clothing used on the person the same throughout. The hair could change in minor ways.
  • (D) Use the same basic, monotone color as provided. You could branch out from there in order to help achieve the objectives for the shift in feelings and age, below, but use colors that will look great printed with black ink (greys that will go onto a white background).
  • INSTRUCTIONS
  • You will be creating a total of four to five (see below) simple single color (or gradient greyscale of some sort) images in the series, as follows:
  • (1) Young child (about 6) just about to leap, scared but determined to do so. They have perhaps been running toward the chasm just ahead, are a bit hunched and are right now pushing off the ground as hard as they can. Just beginning to leap.
  • (2) Young person (about 12), now leaping. See Leap 2.5 or 3. If a feeling can be conveyed, it would be of, "You know, I just might make it! I can do it!"--determined and getting excited. If you want to use Leap 2.5 or 3 as this image, you are welcome to do so.
  • (3) Young person (about 15) in the highest arc of leaping. Could be Leap 4.5, or very close to it. The feeling conveyed should be "I know I will make it, I'm excited and full of energy. This is fun! I am confident I will succeed. I will do this!!"
  • (4) Young adult (about 18) having just completed their leap. Very close to Leap 4.5, but now standing. The feeling is: "My leap is complete. It's time for me to celebrate how exciting the leap journey has been! To honor my accomplishment! I did it! Yeah!!!"
  • (5) Young adult (about 21 -- may not be significantly different in this way to #4). No longer celebrating, but: Confident. Happy. Here. Home. Possibly with hands on hips (?), or taking a selfie pose of some sort.
Nice to have
  • A sense of the feelings and age progression, as described above
Should not have
  • No sense of the sex or race of the young person
