The Cheese Cellar is a new retail business in a large New Zealand town (80,000 people) and we are looking for a logo/branding. Our main business will be as a cheesemonger: buying, ripening and then selling cheeses, which we will sell in our physical shop, online, and direct to local and regional cafes/restaurants/caterers. The owners have experience in making and judging cheese internationally. The core values of our business are: Cheese quality is number one; Customer service & flexibility; Knowledge, education and passion for our products; We are not "above" our customers.
We are also going to sell a range of supporting "specialty" food products that are made either locally in our region or around New Zealand. The concept for this is a "market room" with a range of gourmet products and we will highlight the links to particular manufacturers, farmers or regions.
We are looking for branding that plays on our background/experience and the high quality of our products, but which also suggests an "inclusive", fun culture (i.e. we don't want to appear exclusive or snobbish).
We are looking for two versions of the same logo. 1: The main logo including the words "The Cheese Cellar". 2: The same logo but including the by-line "cheesemonger and specialty food market" which should fit naturally with the main logo. The logos/branding will be used in a range of applications including: in the main signage on the shop front, on the website, and in small formats on product labels, address labels and printed advertising.
Updates
Hi designers. Can I ask that you please read the brief carefully before submitting designs. I specifically said that I do not want designs that include an obvious piece of cheese, or using mainly the colour yellow. However, most designs submitted so far have had both of these in them. I would like to extend this request to say that I am also not interested in the use of 'cartoon' cheese with holes as a background or the words.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Although many designs have been submitted, most have not been up to the level of quality I was expecting. I am going to extend the deadline in the hope that another one or two designs are added that I can seriously compare to my current two favourites. I also wish to use this time to get feedback form friends and family on my favourite designs.
Thanks & regards

Target Market(s)
Main audience: "foodies". Food lovers, who like to try new foods, and recipes they see on TV or in food magazines. These people are prepared to pay a little extra, and love to go to a shop that is filled with interesting food products and items to cook with.
Also: caterers/chefs who want a good source of cheese and dairy products to offer in their menus.

Requirements
Must have
- Two versions of the logo: first one is just "The Cheese Cellar". Second one adds the by-line "cheesemonger and specialty food market" which should fit naturally with the main logo.
Nice to have
- Focus of the design should be on "Cheese Cellar" i.e. consider making "The" smaller and incidental.
Should not have
- We would prefer to stay away from obvious "piece of cheese" designs or the use of the colour yellow alone, unless these are done very well or are highly stylised and fit with the brief above. Also would prefer to avoid the colour red on it's own.
