Logo Design Brief

I'm looking for a logo for my family surname: "Spataro."

I want the logo to be simple and distinct. We love the outdoors and I want the logo to center on the silhouette of a tree. I particularly like many of the elements of the Timberland (shoes and boots) logo: the elegance of a circle, the tree as a symbol of the outdoors, and a feeling of rugged simplicity. I don't necessarily love the way the earth is depicted in the Timberland logo (wavy and at a slant), and I'm not sure you need the earth at all if go with a basic round shape.

I would like to see the letter "S" incorporated into the design in some way -- perhaps on the trunk of the tree -- but I don't need the full name. Just the "S."
