Logo Design Brief

I need a logo for my new Surf School, based on the sunny Kapiti coast in Wellington New Zealand. I'd like the design to be one colour, black, but be reversible so it can be used with a light colour on on a dark background. I had a designer here do a logo but he let me down although his concept was good I found it and more importantly him not user friendly.
My customers are mainly females and many are visitors to New Zealand who often come more for the surfing experience rather than wanting to be dedicated surfers.
I'd like to incorporate a South Pacific / Maori / Polynesian retro vibe in the logo and include the image of a surfer riding a small wave, preferably female in a grass skirt as per the "Surfer Girls only" uploaded file.
The logo style will be a character logo

Target Market(s)

16 to 36 year old free independent travelers who want to experience a fun outdoors activity. Often they will be fit, active and participate in many sports such as skiing, snowboarding. They are looking for a new challenge and I'd like the logo to appeal to them.
