Logo Design Brief

We are looking for a beautifully crafted logo for our men’s underwear international brand: Santa Monica | RN.

TARGET MARKET
We produce lifestyle-based men’s underwear. Contoured shapes, superior comfort and use of fabrics, materials, and technology to create better fitting underwear for style-minded, confident, modern men (aged 18 - 40ish).

BRAND OVERVIEW
We want our logo to give people the feeling of an artisanal premium brand, committed to designing beautiful original underwear of the highest quality.

A brand with a soul and a story to tell (unlike the usual men’s underwear big labels which always look and feel very plain, fake, empty, etc… you name it - they feel either boring or cheesy).

DESIGN CONCEPT
Santa Monica is quite a generic name (although RN helps make it less so). As such, we'd like the logo to be easily remembered and to help us looking less “standard”. We expect the artwork to have some sophistication.

Santa Monica should be the part of the logo that stands out, while RN is just a nice-have and therefore it should just be visible but nothing more. You might as well try and leave it out of the design altogether if that helps better balancing the overall design. We'll then find another way to add it to the final design by ourselves.

Suggestion: You can try stylize the M of Santa Monica as a crown.

Our preference at the moment would be for a vintage/retro-like type of font/logo (e.g. classic Coca-Cola logo; you may fin many such example here as well:

Having said that, we'd like you to get creative and come up with your own design and therefore you might as well want to disregard this.

We are looking for a logo design that has a strong text that makes it easy to understand what the brand is. At the same time, it has to have subtle element(s) i.e. a pictogram - that make it unique from just being a word.

Finally, please note we also need to have an abbreviated version of the logo. This is to help us print logo on some designs of the underwear and to suit other clothing products that we might be doing in the future.

*Alternatively, you may want to change this to "Santa RN Monica” or something like that, using a different color and/or font for RN so as to make it clear the actual name is Santa Monica and that RN is just an addition to the actual name. If so, please make sure you come up with two alternative designs (i.e. "Santa Monica RN" and "Santa RN Monica").

ORIGIN OF THE NAME
"Santa Monica" is the name of the Italian town where our company is based - FYI zip code 47843 - while RN is the abbreviation for Rimini, the name of our province.

Santa Monica is part of a large beach tourist area. Also, its autodrome - The "Misano World Circuit" hosts the globally known "San Marino MotoGP".

The name Santa Monica was allegedly given to this town by the American soldiers during the WWII, at the time when this area was used as Military airbase. The link to Santa Monica, CA - US is pretty straight forward.

Must have

• Must be able to be used on men's underwear BAND, website landing page and all forms of advertising.
  
  We also need to have an abbreviated version of the logo - SM (you can leave the RN out in this case if it helps).

Should not have

• We do not want this logo to look futuristic and plain. We are a premium underwear brand so please stay away from designing anything cheesy. Also, no “cartoon like” art work.
