Hi All,
I manage a small sound recording studio and need assistance with CD artwork, notably converting pdf image files to Photoshop, on print-ready templates, to submit to my CD duplication and packaging service
CD Name: “Keep It Clean”, artist's name: “Dr. G’s Good Medicine”.
In addition to the technical skill required to convert my images to Photoshop format, some creative design flair is desirable: the attractive superimposition of text (e.g., CD title and artist, liner notes, song titles, etc.) onto images, and the creation of professional-looking CD labels, is also required.
So I need a cover created using the images provided with the title and details superimposed.
I have planned on a folded rectangular insert to give 4 squarish pages – printed in color on one side of the rectangle, and monochromatic on the other.
I have executed this as a mock up, which you can view in 2 scans [ "...007jpg" and "...005.jpg" ]. Again, these scans are only of the mockup. (Source photos from which the mockups have been made are attached to this brie; others are available.)
The monochromatic side, once folded, would constitute the interior, i.e., where the text of the liner notes would be. It would be nice to see the text superimposed on a suitable background picture rendered lightly enough so as not to make the text difficult to read.
The color side would constitute the front "cover", or page 1 (visible through the plastic jewel case), and the back of the insert, or page 4. (The RIGHT-HAND SIDE of scan [“…007.jpeg”] would constitute the cover. The LEFT-HAND SIDE of the same scan would become the back of the insert.)
The name of the band [Dr. G’s Good Medicine] , and the name of the CD [Keep It Clean], would need to be added to page 1 (front cover, or RIGHT-HAND SIDE of scan [“…007.jpeg”] ) in some funky old (1920’s or 1930’s-style) font – without obscuring crucial parts of the various portraits.
(If a group portrait seems more suitable for the front cover than a collage of individual faces, a very good example is [ "Scan 110020032.jpeg" ] which could be substituted to advantage. This one already includes a likeness of the band's name.)
Pages 2 & 3 would consist of the text [see scan of mock up “.0005.jpg” ], i.e., the actual liner notes, provided in ".doc." file "KEEP IT CLEAN liner notes & song list.docx".
The song list, also contained in the ".doc" file, needs to be added to the back tray card, which is mocked up as scan “.00046.jpeg”.
The "Vague Moon Records" logo [see ".psd" file] also needs to go on the back tray card.
The name of the band and the name of the CD need also to go on the spine (edge).
An attractive, monochromatic CD label needs to be designed. I would like it to feature the name of the band and the song list, superimposed on a lightly-rendered background photo.
If more pix are requested/desirable, I would be happy to provide additional ones.
Guidelines for setup are provided by the duplication company, "Nimbit". These are available at http://nimbit.discproductionservices.com/Quoter/Templates.aspx

Requirements
Must have
- A funky, old-fashioned feel. The music is all from the 1920's and 1930's - honky tonk, blues, and "jug band" style. Therefore fonts, and artistic treatments should be reflective of those times, not modern, new age, psychedelic, or anything suggestive of "rock & roll".
Nice to have
- A lightly-rendered picture as a background picture for superimposed liner notes.
Should not have
- Anything flashy, modern, hyper-abstract, or rock & roll-ish.
