Our mission is to affirm and partner with vulnerable ethnic or linguistic communities who want to take initiative in the areas of education and development. Our primary focus is on Mother Tongue literacy, with programs serving children and adults. (http://LitInit.org)
Some of our partners refer to as as "Lit-Init", and this friendly name communicates a value of ours - which is to bring some "lit" (litearcy) into a wide variety of social development activities, such as medical relief, economic development, or advocacy and social justice. We are eager to partner with a variety of organizations, not only those who share our focus on education, as long as they share our desire to put the "last first" when it comes to vulnerable ethnic communities.
As such, we need a logo that communicates reliability and initiative in the face of challenges. We like the colors such as "pencil yellow", orange and green.
Attached are two logos. Our current logo depicts the letter "L" formed with two pencils. Recently we thought of a hybrid image (attached) of an open book, flying atop a downward pointing pencil, which communicates our focus on authorship (particularly among lesser-written languages), and the liberating effect it has on communities, promoting a healthy form of enhanced identity and self-confidence.
Updates
It would be good to see more submissions which work with the embedded notion of "lit-init", as described in the brief. As stated in the brief, we are looking for designs that lean toward "professional" on the scale of "personal<>professional". Judging by the recent submissions, we would like to revise our preference on the "playful <> serious" from "neutral" to moderately serious. Thank you, Troy
