Logo Design Brief
My new company makes customized lip balms for businesses (companies, dental offices, real estate agents, music bands, etc.), nonprofit organizations, political campaigns, events (business conventions and athletic events, for example), weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties, etc. It does NOT sell lip balms individually in stores or at neighborhood markets, for example. The product is all about the ability to customize/personalize it. I have been doing this for years as gifts for friends, love doing it, and have decided to make a business out of it.
Clients can (1) customize/personalize the lip balm labels; (2) choose the flavor of their balms; (3) choose the container (traditional lip balm tubes, tall skinny tubes, small tins, small round plastic containers, etc.); (4) choose the color of the lip balm cap; and (5), choose how they would like their lip balms sealed (plastic shrink wrap or small organza bags, for example). All of the ingredients are all natural. If the client chooses an edible essential oil as a flavoring, then the product stays all natural. However, some clients like artificial flavorings, and in the case of choosing one of these artificial flavors, then the product does not remain all natural because of this one ingredient. The client chooses!
The logo needs to be used on the actual lip balm labels themselves as well as on business cards, the website, Facebook page, and return mailing address labels. But, the lip balm labels are the most important. There is a small amount of room to work with on the labels, so something small is in order but something that is also easily readable and stands out in order to promote the company's brand. The bulk of the space on the label must be what the client wants on them. The lip balms themselves should promote themselves; in other words, every person who receives a lip balm at any given event should be able to find my company and want to purchase their own customized lip balms for their unique purpose.
The company is called Balms with Altitude and it is made in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. The domain name for my company is www.balmswithaltitude.com. I handcraft these lip balms myself. I make the balm, hand pipe it into the containers, label each container with a label I create with the client’s final approval, and seal each container. Using the word "Altitude" is a play on the idea of "Attitude" but encompasses where they are made, high up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I believe Colorado as a state carries a natural branding of the concepts of natural, quality, good ingredients, and my company draws on Colorado's natural branding. My lip balms are (1) handcrafted by me and are done so (2) in Colorado. So the three unique points of my lip balms are (1) customized/personalized, (2) handcrafted with great ingredients, and (3) made in Colorado.
The lip balm labels are 1.75 inches by 2 inches. The 1.75 inches is the length and the 2 inches wraps around the tube. I hope this makes sense. I have attached one photo and one video to give you an idea of scale. I have not been keeping samples of my work and these are some of my earliest labels from a few years ago, so the photo and video aren’t intended to give you an idea of what my labels look like today, but to give you an idea of the scale I am confined by. Per U.S. regulations governing lip balms, I am required to list a company name, physical address, and ingredient list on each lip balm label.
I am open on colors and really like colors. Because the labels are customizable, the lip balm labels do need to have some flexibility in order to look good with a variety colors including changing background colors. My logo has to harmonize with what the client wants on their unique lip balm label.
Balms with Altitude
Handcrafted in Colorado OR Made in Colorado

With such a small space to work with, I understand that having Handcrafted in Colorado and the website may be asking too much. I am happy to just include it in separate text below the logo. But, if it can be incorporated, that would be a benefit, particularly "Handcrafted in Colorado" or "Made in Colorado".
Please note that while I want to emphasize Colorado, I want to stay far away from any connection to marijuana.

Requirements
Must have
- Balms with Altitude (the business name). I would also like a logo, something that conveys fresh, uniqueness, and/or attention to detail. A more modern design is desired. The label has to be able to lay over a variety of colors; the client chooses the underlying color and the label must be visible over that background color. I think in order to preserve as much space as possible on the lip balm label for my clients' wishes, a long, skinny design probably works best. But it has to be readable on a very small scale.
Nice to have
- Handcrafted in Colorado
- I like colors. But my logo has to harmonize with what my clients want to put on their customized/personalized label.
Should not have
- Any references to marijuana.
