Logo Design Brief

We need a logo designed for a new online charity called CrowdGuru.org. We match people with skills to offer to people in charities and social enterprises who need those skills. The basic idea is that someone with experience can help to "skill up" someone who is trying to achieve positive social change.

Our logo needs to communicate to two groups of people:

1. People working for good causes
They can log in, set up a profile and get support to overcome obstacles that prevent them from achieving their goals. We put them in touch with great people in an informal way and they can then get the help they need.

For this audience the focus is on achievement of their goals and improving their skills.

2. People with skills to offer
They can log in, set up a profile, see great range of exciting challenges from good causes, and offer to help out.

For this audience the focus is on sharing their skills and doing good. For many it will be a way of improving their CV too.

The final design should encapsulate the mood of accessibility, professionalism and respect. This is all about connecting real people to do real things!

The site is being developed as an open source project and is still under development.

The attached PDF gives you more a flavour of what we are proposing.

Some of our "competitors" that we think are nicely designed (so you know not to make stuff similar)

Look forward to seeing what you propose!

Hello Amazing Designers,

Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you for all of your excellent work so far, in less than 24 hours! This is my first time using a crowdsourcing site in this way and it has been a delight on Day 1.

I have 3 important comments from the designs that I have seen that I should tell you all:

1. Abstracted People Logos
BE WARY! The charity and social enterprise market is full of people helping people. So you can imagine that abstracted people holding hands or cheering or coming together etc are pretty common. These will not stand out.

2. Our Competitors
I provided some examples of "competitors" (for attention) in the brief. Obviously we cannot use designs that are too close to them. We actually work with most of them so focussing on what makes CrowdGuru.org unique is better. Let me know if I have not clearly articulated what that is, because I don't want your brilliant efforts being wasted on a poor brief.

3. Submitting Rough Ideas to Save You Time
Please feel free to do it. I don' need perfectly executed finished articles to see where you are going with something. If you tend to work with pencil and paper than sketch something, take photo and either email ben@crowdguru.org or post it up as a submission with a bit of description as to what you are showing me and why you think it will be good. I can fill in the gaps and point you in the right direction.

Thanks again for all of your hard work. Some of the logos I have seen are amazing, and all contain good elements.

Cheers
Ben

Target Market(s)

People who work in the charity and social enterprise sector: typically 25-40, 60+% female. We do not want this to be geographically focused.

Professionals with 3-5+ years experience primarily in marketing, business or fundraising. Ideally at a senior level. But they are doing this in their spare time so it should not "feel like work".

Requirements
Must have
  • the website name
Nice to have
  • It would be nice to have some characters / icons that represent Gurus and Causes (the two protagonists in the site) so that we can use these through the site.

    PERSONALITY
An individual will interact with the brand (and logo) and needs to feel it is accessible. We are not selling IT services to blue chips, so this is a much more human and 1-2-1 interaction. Please give our brand personality. That personality needs to be wise and friendly and someone you feel comfortable going to when you need help.
Should not have
  • Not overly fussy. Not a generic "social" motif. Money is not the motivator. We don't want a logo that only focuses on one of the groups.
