Logo Design Brief
"The Academy of Dance" is a growing dance studio in rural Maine, USA. 2011 is our 8th year in business, and we are looking to revamp our logo as part of a drive for a more slick and professional image.
The logo will be used on marketing materials (brochures, flyers, programs and signs), and as well as clothing. In view of this, the logo needs to be simple yet striking: a bold design that has to be clearly visible and memorable. As we will be using the design on clothing, the colour scheme needs to be simple: 3 colors at most, with no colour graduation. We envisage the main logo colors being red, black, and gold. Transparent areas that will show the color of the paper or fabric that the logo is printed on are acceptable.
The dance studio teaches tap, ballet, lyrical, Irish step, Flamenco and hip hop to children and adults, although the vast majority of our students are girls in the 2-12 age range. The logo should appeal to this core demographic. We like the idea of an image of a dancer super-imposed over a modern or stylized star graphic.
The logo should be a combination of graphic and text, with the name of the studio clearly visible. A clear, easily readable font is preferred.
Our current logo and branding can be found on our website:

Should not have
- Avoid using ballroom dancing or couple dancing images. If the image of a dancer is used, it should be silhouetted, and preferably androgynous. If the gender is obvious, it should be female. No dancing shoes, tutus, or anything obviously "girly".
