Icon Design Brief

We are a startup that supports, artists, galleries and curators with networking tools, so they can connect and stay connected with collectors as they go online.

In the attached document you will find screen shots of our technology and also mock ups of some ideas of icons and other material.

If you come up with a better approach please go for it. Happy to listen to new, fresh ideas

FOUR THINGS WE NEED

1. We need to create 8 icons that speaks to the key activities and things that collectors care about. This is the hard bit. We have our ideas, we are hoping your ideas are better.

2. We to adapt a 5 generic icons so they fit with the design of the other icons you create (Share x2 , Follow x2 and 1 x Information icon

If you have an interesting idea for a follow icon we would be interested.

3. We need to convert our logo into vector graphics and simplify it a bit so it fits the look and feel of our icon set.

4. There are 3 icons we have designed in pixels that simply need to be converted into vector icons.

PRINCIPLES FOR DESIGNING THE ICONS

1. We want thinner, line based icons rather than blocky icons. The idea is that if necessary we can put these icons directly on an image so you can click on it to reveal information about the Artist, Gallery etc. connected to that image. Line icons work better over images.

If you are going to use the examples we provided, they should be adapted so they are more line based

2. We want icons that are only in one colour (i.e. without using different shades or multiple colours. Really simple.

3. Our idea is to create an icon of two famous classical painting and then use one or two of them in different situations to create 8 icons for art, artists, collectives, curators, galleries, exhibitions, collectors and collections.

4. We want to use human figures in our icons and we are thinking of a Keith Haring styled human figure (we want to avoid the Toilet Sign type figures - something slightly different)

LIST OF ICONS WE NEED

We need icons for the following things (in the attached document you can see we have already begun to develop clear ideas for these icons).

1. - 8 Icons to Design

ART - Indicates a painting, sculpture

ARTIST - The person who creates the painting

COLLECTIVE - A group of artists collaborating

COLLECTOR - Someone who buys art

COLLECTION - Art that a collector has bought

CURATOR - A person who selects artworks for exhibitions

GALLERY - A building where paintings are hung and also an organisation that curates art

EXHIBITION - a selection of curated artworks

2) 5 icons to adapt so they fit style of the other icons

SHARE x2 - icon for posting to social media ios and android versions

FOLLOW x2 - Heart and Five pointed star, click on to follow artists, galleries, collectors

INFORMATION - information icon

3) Logo to convert into vector and simplify, improve
1 x LOGO

4) 3 Pixel Icons to convert into vectors

Pixel based icons provided to convert - UP ARROW, INFORMATION BUTTON, CLOSE BUTTON)

Target Market(s)

Art collectors, who are generally 50+ should be able to reasonably quickly identify the icons. To have a look at a great art website with nice clean design go to artsy.net

Should not have

• Should not be too jazzy. The artworld is clean, bau haus style. Ask yourself, what would Steve Jobs do. If it was an icon what would he hate. Artists and collectors don't like gimmicks.
