Logo Design Brief

We need a logo to represent the middle school program at our K-8 charter school. We are located in Thousand Oaks, CA, in the Conejo Valley of Ventura County. Our school is four years old and we have a great design for the whole school logo. Now we need something to set our Middle School program apart. Something that ties to the school's logo but that middle school kids will think is cool.

The name of our school is Bridges Charter School - the Middle School program is CORE Academy at Bridges.

CORE = Character/Creative, Organic, Rigor/Respect, Excellence.
Mission Statement:
The CORE Academy at Bridges seeks to build character and ignite passion for inquiry, inspiring students to become intrinsically motivated while enthusiastically engaging in their education. The CORE Academy - where students live their whole education.

I have included the school's logo (see file below) - along with the beginning design for our CORE Academy. We want something with a lot of punch, eye catching but still connected to our original image. We do not want the image of the tree in our new logo - we would prefer words only. Also, we would need the two logos to appear together so it is important that neither one overpower the other.
