Logo Design Brief

We need a school logo that can be used on basketball floor, tshirts, etc. Our name is the Gryphons. Gryphon is a mythological Greek creature representing an eagle and lion. We would like our team colors in the logo, black 419 and burgundy 229. We are a classical k-12 school that provides a traditional education. We would like the logo to include some symbolic representation of respect, citizenship, honor, integrity, perseverance, and excellence. We want the logo to be fun yet serious. Not too cartoonish. I have attached a sample that we have been working on but i feel it lacks some of those symbols discussed above. I did attach a few others that i found online.
