Web Design Brief

Hi, we need a new design for the site www.gdkits.com
It's a scale modelling e-commerce website (no RC models or die cast models, only static models to build) which is a highly technical hobby (exact scale reproduction from passionated starting with the kit we sell using different material (paint, airbrush...)). Main fields are military aircrafts, military vehicles and scale figures. They are also less important fields like reference books, boats, civilian vehicles, tools like aibrushes, paints and so on.
Every scale model come with plans for mounting the items (mainly on plastic sprues), instructions for painting and most of them have decals to apply.
We don't want a military feeling, and visitors must understand immediately that our site is not about RC models or die cast models but are kits to build. They are not toys, customers are mainly adults aroud 30-50 (hobby starting aroud 14 years old), mainly mens but a few girls are in the hobby too (mainly in figures).
We would like to get rid of the right banner and have a search engine (actually on left top of the menu) and menu (actually on left) on all the pages. We need the main page banners for new products or announcements and the first page must show the last added product.
The product's list (click on any link on left) must be improved and the product's detail too.

Design must be done in a way it will improve the sales and feel confident with the site. We have no preferences for colors and disposition, new logo proposal is also highly welcome (with eventually an extra fee, but we won't start 2 projects).
