For 30+ years, we have been the "County & District Law Presidents' Association" (of Ontario, Canada) but at our most recent general meeting, we changed our name to the "Federation of Ontario Law Associations". This name change was made because (a) the old name (CDLPA - pronounced "cudelpa") was awkward and (b) the name did not reflect the full scope of our mandate.
Our mandate is to represent the 12,000 (+) practising lawyers in Ontario who are working in private practice, generating fees and billings for their own businesses. (ie. we do not represent in-house counsel, lawyers working for government, Crown Attorney's, judges, etc.). These lawyers are represented by one of 46 local law associations spread across every judicial district in Ontario. Those local associations, in turn, are represented in a loose federation or alliance that was previously called "CDLPA" whose main function was to hold a meeting twice a year for those Presidents. As such, our name reflected that we represented the 46 "Presidents" of these associations, but going forward we want to represent the associations and their members more directly.
The Board of "FOLA" would also prefer to maintain the Ontario map in its logo (though this is not critical) and probably keep the current colour scheme (also not critical ... willing to look at options). The current logo is provided in the uploaded documents.
The logo should also incorporate our French translation: "Fédération des Associations du Barreau de l'Ontario"
