Requirements
Must have
- *The site's users are expressive, passionate, private, quiet, inwardly driven, inquisitive. They are creative. They are joining a small community by being part of the site-and so they are helpful, curious, social. Some users are shy and are looking for a safe and welcoming place to share their work. The logo should encapsulate this feel.
*The logo should be contemporary yet classic. I'd like the logo to have a timeless feel. It's a site for writers-who often will handwrite their work in a blank notebook. Here they are posting it to share or for critique. So we have a combo of an activity that people have been doing forever but here in a new form.
*I want the logo to be able to could stand on its own all one color (though it can use multiple colors); it could be letter-pressed. These negative space designs seem to achieve this effect well: http://print24.com/blog/2013/03/40-negative-space-logo-designs/
*I have a strong preference for purple and grey. I'm open to other things and am more interested in the logo's shape than its color, but I really like the purple and grey for some reason. See Sherwin Williams Intuitive color swatch for an example of the purple I have in mind. Here are some other colors I like:
Warm yellows
Earthy greens
Charcoal grey
*Updated 5.28.13:
Logo should be one or two colors.
Nice to have
- *I think it might be interesting to have either "Inked" or "Voices" look like it was written with a pen, most likely "inked".
*I've asked for a wordmark logo, but a small picture to accompany the logo is a nice to have but not compulsory. If you think of something that reflects the feel I've described, go for it.
**Updated 5.28.13:
I looked up some fonts that I like to provide suggestions for the type of feel for either both words, or just "Inked". Bilbo, Amatic, Jinky, Rabiohead, VincHand and Journal looked promising. I want "inked" to look handwritten. I don't think cursive works though (unless the font has just a few cursive characters).
I like a contemporary font like Ostrich Sans for "Voices".
Should not have
- *Primary colors
*Cartoon-ish look
*Should not feel boxy or harsh
**Updated 5.28.13
Should not look too techie or Web 2.0.
I do not want color gradients.
