Logo Design Brief
rentbynumbers is an exciting UK start up whose initial product is a web app to assist UK private landlords in managing their rental properties themselves.
Unlike existing software offerings in the market, rentbynumbers is unique in being built on a foundation of guidance and assistance so users with any level of knowledge will have everything to hand to run a successful rental business.
The name rentbynumbers is a take on "paint by numbers", where a work of art is broken down into small, simple to follow steps helping amateurs create a masterpiece. Our software was created with this same concept in mind; taking the complex process of renting and breaking it down in to manageable pieces that allow anyone to follow best practice and run to professional standards.
We are looking for designs that communicate this transformation of the complex into the simple

Quite a few of the designs so far do not seem to have tried to build the concept of turning something complex into something simple. This is the cornerstone of our software and therefore needs that prominence in the logo. We do not want to take any designers away from their current thoughts on expressing this and know it is quite abstract but if you are looking for inspiration here are a few examples where we feel this works. We are still completely open minded to how this is done and are not looking to give any preference to a design based on these examples over something completely different. We hope this helps!

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: We are still yet to receive a submission that we feel has successfully met the brief of showing the complex transformed to the simple.
A number of designers who have accepted an invitation to design have yet to submit and due to the contest initially running over a public holiday we have chosen to extend to provide extra time for someone to come up with a winning concept.
It is still all to play for so please hit us with your best shot!

Must have
- Please style the word "rent" differently to "bynumbers" as the rent component of the logo will potentially be used on other rent"X" products in the group. To this same end the layout and spacing should allow for the "bynumbers" part to be interchanged with designs for other product offerings without imbalancing the overall design.
The winning designer will be the preferred candidate for future logo work.
Nice to have
- We prefer the use of flat colours.
Should not have
- Please avoid clichés. We are not interested in seeing any roof lines or "To Let" boards. We also want to avoid paint brushes, easels and similar. The focus should be on communicating our values.
