Book Cover Design Brief

the book takes place after the Civil War. It has many themes as you will read from a suggested back cover text. It will be impossible to put everything on the cover.
however:
1.the clothes should be period.
2.???possible thoughts are doctor of the period delivering baby. maybe, baby in doctor's hands coming toward reader.
3. ???./to give time frame, ? union and confederate flags on ground , small, to show civil war is over.
4. cover must be DRAMATIC!!!! EVEN DARING.

It was a time……….
…when the Civil War crushed 600,000 with ease.
…when daring men tamed the land for profit and unleashed deadly epidemics.
…when doctors, arrogant with ancient superstitions, scarred whole generations.
…when love brought death.
…when talented women earned only scorn and contempt.
…when the desperate of Europe came to rape and plunder the New World.

It was a time when Hope, ever present, suddenly rose up to challenge and triumph in a new Century of Promise.

• suggest major some major themes, not all to prevent cluttering.
• much attention paid to type/fonts
• want to see some original ideas

Nice to have

• something to indicate post civil war period.
• striking powerful woman on cover, yet, balanced by deadly risks of
• childbirth.
• doctor is a hero... strong,masculine, involved with childbirth, also with women.

Should not have

• not usual heroine framed against the sky,
• no soldiers clashing.
• not look like HARLEQUIN romances.
