Book Cover Design Brief
Hello designers out there!
I'm looking for a design for the first book of my 6-part Fantasy-series. I therefore need a full cover Illustration including the German title (Zähmung) and the authors' name (Farina de Waard) as well as the title of the book-series (Das Vermächtnis der Wölfe)
The book will first be published as an e-book in German and afterwards get translated into english. The German name of the first book will be "Zähmung" which translate to taming or domestication. But just to say it right now: it's not a werewolf-lovestory even though i want a wolf on the first cover. In my story there are different human tribes that each associate with an animal, so all covers of the series should have one of the six animals and a matching theme that makes them recognizable as a series. The person I select for this cover design would therefore likely get the chance to design all the other covers in the next years along the publishing-process.
I have made some sketches, how I want the animals to look, they are attached below. Since the animals are the "identification" for each tribe, I would like them to look wild and "handcrafted", dark but made out of a natural element... for example, as if the wolf was shaped into old wood or stone or smeared onto metal with dark colour. It could have a magical blue glow to it on some edges.
(e.g. for a later book of the series there should be one animal-figure painted out of blood on wornoff metal like a used shield.)
You can see three different sketches I made, it's just the outlines of the wolf, and they should then be "filled" by having the inside-areas curved into wood or stone etc.
The sketch that I put onto Wood is the most recent design I made and I would like you to use a really similar shape for the wolf, for the material you can choose different ones, I would just like it to look rather dark and mystical.
You can choose the direction of the wolfs head.
Also, you can choose a font. I have used Bradley Hand ITC in my data, I would like something that looks kind of handwritten and not too modern.
Requirements:
seperate layers for the title (Zähmung), author (Farina de Waard) and cover design
resolution: 300dpi
Note: The English covers could be another design-Job or the same might be used with the English title instead of the German.
- Update 24th of April
I have added another draft I made so you can see my ideas about the colours. Of course feel free to choose other materials, this one is supposed to be black and blue paint on a rock background. I did it on a canvas with acrylic paint.

Requirements
Must have
- this should be on the cover:
Author: Farina de Waard
Title of this book: Zähmung
Series' title: Das Vermächtnis der Wölfe
Should not have
- this is not a love-story-vampire-werewolf-book but the story of a parallel world that has been driven into a long-existing dictatorship and is now trying to find a solution to prevent different human "races" from beeing extinct. There is rather "natural" magic that plays with the elements, but no wands, dragons, dwarfs, unicorns... so I don't want a cover that is too cheesy and romantic.
