Walkingspree is implementing badges as a gamification tool to motivate and engage Walkingspree members through Social, Activity & Challenge achievements.
Gamification is rapidly growing as a method to motivate and engage people. Badges are one tool used in gamification. It’s a good way to motivate based on steps/activity, social activity and website activity. It’s also a great way for members to self-motivate themselves outside of the possibility of prizes. Only a few ever really win cash or prizes. But virtual prizes everyone can attain at some level.
In the context of online social media, badges are “virtual goods” that have some visual representation which are awarded to users who complete a specific activity.
At a higher level, Badges should:
1. Balance anticipation/excitement with predictable achievement
2. Be visually appealing
3. Leverage Scarcity Principles
4. Integrate tightly with the main program
Walkingspree’s goal is to take gamification best practices examine our competitors and build on these items to create a superior badges infrastructure that also coincides with our strategy of providing customization to clients. This should give us leverage over our competitors.
This project needs a graphic designer to design 40-60 badges that share a baseline design but have different stylized icons to represent each badge type. Designs will have these requirements:
- vector art
- square dimensions
- similar baseline style
- varied icon image to represent each badge type (ex. a badge for walking, blogging, joining a team etc.)
- clean style that can easily be viewed at 32X32 pixels.
- see Fitbit pedometer badges as an example.
