Packaging Design Brief
The Easy Home Chef line of ready-to-make fresh cooking kits is without precedent or competition. Inspired by 15 years of teaching Thai cooking in the Gulf of Thailand, the co-founder of the Samui Institute of Thai Culinary Arts (SITCA) is offering this opportunity to help create a ground breaking brand that will be marketed worldwide. The designer we choose stands to share in our success for years to come. Please use Corel Draw if you can.
We need a new logo, and a redesign of the cardboard sleeve for our market tested prototype. The packaging should convey freshness and simplicity. We don't want a reworking of what we already have, we want a fresh new look!
Each of our kits will consist of a clear plastic tray, containing just the right amount of fresh produce, condiments and seasoning sauces needed to produce a two person serving.
A wok encircling a large oval window is one idea we like for the front.
These kits will be sold in the produce sections of supermarkets and at other retail outlets.
The dimensions of the tray are 300 mm long by 185 mm wide by 50 mm deep. These will not change from kit to kit. Ingredients are sealed in with a clear plastic film.

Updates
Project Deadline Extended Reason: We are extending the deadline for two reasons. First, someone wrote to say he had completed a design, but missed the deadline for submitting it. We feel for him, and would like to see his work. Second, although we love several of the designs we got, we were hoping to see at least one that ran with our idea of using a very recognizable wok or frying pan as the central element, inside which the ingredients would be displayed. We thought it would be interesting if a corner of the box (maybe top left?) was missing (that is to say rounded off), revealing the tray beneath it. If you are one of those who have been asked not to submit any more designs, please respect our wishes. Our continued thanks for all the superb work, which we've acknowledged by adding a second place prize! Added Friday, April 3, 2015

Requirements
Must have
- A non cuisine specific logo for Easy Home Chef to replace the existing one. Our brand can be summed up as "Fresh and healthy home cooking made easy."
- A cardboard sleeve for our Pad Thai Kit that slides over (or wraps around) the Pad Thai prototype tray. It does not have to have a rectangular frame like our existing design. In fact it can be any shape, but should withstand shipping and handling without tearing, and must reveal at least 75% of the ingredients from a top view. It should add rigidity to the flexible package it contains, and have enough outer surface area to display:
- FRONT
- • Easy Home Chef logo.
- • An iconic Thai image that is not religion specific.
- • "Pad Thai Kit"
- • "Serves Two"
- • "Add shrimp or chicken, and eggs."
- • "Gluten Free!"
- • "Contains peanuts"
- • Photo of the finished dish (optional)
- BACK AND/OR SIDES
- • Preparation instructions. (See attached design brief.)
- • Space for contents and nutritional information.
- • Space for a bar code.
- • "Be prepped and ready in 5 minutes! Watch the video at www.easyhomechef.com"
Nice to have
- Easy to understand iconography to replace some of the text used in the preparation instructions. (See the PDF file for the steps.)
- It would also be good if once removed, the sleeve could be folded to stand up on a counter top with the preparation instructions displayed in a upright way.
Should not have
- Religious (Buddha) imagery
